The Bank’s development agenda is delivering the financial and technical support for transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth. In order to sharply focus the objectives of the Ten Year Strategy (2013 - 2022) and ensure greater developmental impact, five major areas (High 5s), all of which will accelerate our delivery for Africa, have been identified for scaling up, namely; energy, agro-business, industrialization, integration and improving the quality of life for the people of Africa.

The Complex
  • The Vice-Presidency, Human Resources and Corporate Services ensures the delivery of efficient, people-centered, client-oriented, corporate services to ensure overall institutional effectiveness in all aspects of the Bank’s corporate services.
  • The complex leads efforts to ensure the competitiveness of the Bank as the employer of choice and is responsible for providing leadership in the formulation and implementation of Bank’s strategies on people, information technology, general services and institutional procurements, language services, business continuity and, health and safety strategies.
The Hiring Department/Division
  • The Corporate Information Technology Department mission is to align the Information Technology delivery strategy along with the Bank’s business strategy to increase the organizational effectiveness through efficient use of the Information Systems.
  • Under the leadership of the Bank’s Information System’s Director, the Department is mandated to deliver the best possible Information Technology services for Bank staff and help achieve the results that will get the Bank closer to accomplishing its development goals.
The Position
  • The Principal Enterprise Architect is responsible for defining, upholding, and communicating the Business and Information Technology Architecture that supports the Bank’s vision and strategic intent.
  • The incumbent will provide Business Support, Technology, Governance and Finance teams to align the Information Technology solutions with the needs of the Bank.
  • In particular, the incumbent will guide and support the delivery of new Information Technology solutions. An Architect’s skills and knowledge must span multiple architecture domains (e.g. Business Architecture, Application/Solution Architecture, Technical/Infrastructure Architecture & Information/Data Architecture) required to ensure balanced solutions.
  • The Architect is expected to influence the organization and work independently with senior business and Information Technology leaders while acting as a mentor and role model.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of the Lead Enterprise Architect, the Principal Enterprise Architect will:
  • Design and help with the implementation of an Enterprise Architecture based on enterprise business requirements and Information Technology strategies.
  • Follow-up the creation or evolution of the Enterprise Architecture function/program.
  • Identify and analyze enterprise business drivers to derive useful business context.
  • Elaborate the gap analysis for different projects based on future requirements and current state environment.
  • Analyze the technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the Enterprise Architecture.
  • Promote the Enterprise Architecture process, outcomes and results to the organization, including the enterprise's Information Technology and business leaders.
  • Contribute to the creation of governing principles to guide Enterprise Architecture decision making.
  • Participate in the development of an implementation plan for the Enterprise Architecture based on business requirements and Information Technology strategies.
  • Design and implement the ongoing refinement activities for Enterprise Architecture.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of Enterprise Architecture standards.
  • Consult with project teams to fit projects to enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture to accommodate project needs.
  • Consult with domain teams to fit domains to architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the planned architecture to accommodate domain needs.
  • Help identify organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the Enterprise Architecture.
  • Create and maintain documentation of all architecture design and analysis work.
  • Participate in the development and execution of a communication and education plan for the Enterprise Architecture.
  • Liaise with the Project / Program management office to help manage the day-to-day interdependencies of multiple project teams.
  • Liaise with the Information System Steering Committee as technical advisory for capital projects.
Selection Criteria
Including desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Hold at least a Master's degree or its equivalent in Information Technology, Innovation Management, Business Management, Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science and other related fields.
  • Have a minimum of six (6) years of Information Technology and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management and infrastructure planning and operations, with experience in managing multiple cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders.
  • Hold a qualification in Enterprise Architecture Certification (Zachman, Togaf, Gartner) and/or ITSM qualification, or minimum ITIL Foundation certified.
  • Expert ability to interact with all stakeholder levels in the area of Enterprise Architecture.
  • Experience of Business Process Re-engineering and modelling is essential.
  • Proven experience in Information Technology services requirement analysis and building business cases.
  • Experience in managing and controlling projects (including communication and quality management planning, change management and risk management) would be advantageous.

  • Excellent knowledge of a range of Enterprise Architecture with particular emphasis on: Business Process Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, Applications Architecture, Information Architecture.
  • Having private sector experience will be an added advantage.
