The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC says its proposed biofuel plant to be located in Agasha/Guma area of Benue State will create one million direct and indirect jobs.

NNPC Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, announced the plan for the building of the plant when he led a team from the corporation on a visit to Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, in Makurdi.

Baru said NNPC had already concluded arrangement for the building of the biofuel plant, which will produce 84 million liters of alternative fuel yearly.

In addition, he said, the project will lead to employment generation as it is expected to create about one million direct and indirect jobs.

The NNPC boss enumerated other benefits of the biofuel project to include a sugarcane feedstock plantation of about 20,000 hectares, a cane mill and raw/refined sugar-plant capable of producing 126,000 tonnes yearly as well as a fuel-ethanol processing plant.

Baru told the governor that the NNPC delegation was in the state to sensitise the government and the people on the up-coming project.

He solicited the support of the governor in making the project a success, requesting specifically that the governor facilitated an early issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy for the 50,000 hectares of land required for the project.

In his remarks, Governor Orthom expressed delight over NNPC’s oil exploration in the state in addition to the biofuel project. He pledged the co-operation of the government and the people to make NNPC successful in its projects in the state.
