The Women's Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) was founded in January 1993. Although the Centre’s operational headquarters is in Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria, its research and other activities have impacted greatly the practice and provision of sexual and reproductive health care in other parts of Nigeria, Africa and the world.

Through its cutting edge research, WHARC educates women, youth, community gatekeepers and policymakers about sexual and reproductive health, and advocates for policy change at the local, state and federal level. WHARC also provides current and effective reproductive health services to women and adolescent girls in Africa.

Call for Expression of Interest for Development of Documentary

The Consultancy

The overall objective of the consultancy is to produce a video documentary that communicates WHARC research activities and findings over the past 20 years to key stakeholders.

Specific objectives of the consultancy
  • Develop a story line to be used to produce the documentary in consultation with WHARC team.
  • Develop a master video documentary on WHARC to document the organization’s history and achievements for dissemination to a wide stakeholder audience.
  • Develop short video version segments of maximum five (5) minutes each, under thematic areas to be agreed with the consultant for mass media and online advocacy purposes.
  • Develop up to 7 Public Service Announcements addressing specific issues based on thematic areas agreed.

The Consultant/ Firm will:
  • Identify and propose a structure for the documentary and other audio-visual materials to be produced.
  • Consult and interview identified WHARC Ambassadors and stakeholders within Nigeria
  • Interview some beneficiaries and profile some projects
  • Deliver a draft script and documentary outline for comments.
  • Present the video documentary and PSAs to WHARC management team.
  • Finalize the video documentary incorporating the comments arising from the presentation to WHARC team and stakeholders.
  • Perform all activities within a specified timeline and deliver projects as agreed upon
  • Propose itemized budget for undertaking the assignment.

Expertise Required and Pre-qualification
  • A team of consultants/individual proposals will be evaluated against the following criteria:
  • Demonstrated experience and competency in conducting similar assignments with five to ten years working experience in development of video documentaries, for a client base that must include not for profit organizations
  • Clear articulation of capacity and skill, and innovative approaches to carry out the assignment
  • Clear work plan and articulation of expected methodologies and outputs
  • Preference will be given to consultants or organizations that have the needed equipment and personnel to deliver on all activities as contained in the consultancy.
