Description
- The Process Engineer stewards all phases of process engineering.
- Ensures that the Project's requirements, as detailed in the Technical Specifications, for all process engineering are carried out faithfully, and in a timely fashion.
- Stewards process engineering aspects of the Project with other discipline leads on the PMT, as necessary.
- Stewards the interfaces between the PMT and the EPC contractor's organization with respect to process engineering to ensure quality and minimize change orders.
- Interfaces with and gets technical guidance from the EMDC Process Engineering Supervisor in the EMDC Functional Support organization, as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall process engineering technical leadership and expertise
- Steward the EPC contractor's activities with respect to process engineering including:
- Detail process engineering
- Development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Development of the schedule, recommended deliverables, and labour hour estimate for process engineering
- Measurement and reporting of physical progress
- Selection, specification, and inspection of process and process control components
- Procurement of process related tagged items including preparation of specifications, bid evaluations, bid tabulations, bid recommendations, etc.
- Review, evaluate, and advise:
- Process simulations, optimization, and feasibility studies
- Process specifications, P&IDs, and PFDs
- Compliance with design methods and safety factors to be used in design of project. Reviews completed design for correctness, compliance, and operability
- Operability of the unit or plant for start‑up, normal, turndown, and shutdown modes. Reviews or sets design basis for abnormal operating conditions
- Process pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up planning activities
- Participate in Hazardous Operations (HAZOP) reviews.
Qualifications and skills
- Thorough and extensive knowledge of:
- Process engineering principles, theories, and concepts
- Applicable codes, standards, and trade practices
- Thorough knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of process and process control hardware and software
- Strong background, including operations, in oil and gas production facilities.
- Broad understanding of Safety aspects in design (API 14C regulations, relief and blowdown, passive and active fire protection, etc.)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (preferably Chemical Engineering)
- Strong communication, coordination, technical and problem solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs
- Read, write, and speak fluent English.
