Job Title: Instructor (Electrical Trades)

Location
: Ajase-Ipo, Kwara
Reports To: Academic Dean

About the Role
  • The role of the Instructor is to provide strategic assistance to the HOD in the development of the Department and programmes, as well as contribute to the International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurial College’s (IVTEC) strategic priorities set for the faculty.
  • The Instructor is expected to support the HOD in the development and delivery of overall instructional programmes, as well as training and knowledge transfer so as to enhance the quality of the trainee’s experience.
  • She/he is required to operate within IVTEC policies, regulations and framework ensuring the physical and human resources of the Department are effectively deployed.
Key Performance Areas
  • Assist the HOD in the effective management of each Department.
  • Deputise for the HOD as required, managing the strategic direction of the department.
  • Assist in the effective interactions between departments to ensure effective collaboration and teamwork towards college’s objectives and goals.
  • Report progress and flag risks at regular intervals to the HOD.
  • Provide feedback and advice on progress and programme implementation to respective HODs.
  • Assist the HOD in the effective and timely delivery, implementation and assessments of all training programmes.
  • Implement decisions of the HOD on the allocated tasks and deliverables and report duly.
  • Maintain safe and healthy training environment by following organization standards and legal regulations.
  • Conduct practical demonstration of learning instruction in the workshop.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to trainees during classes and simulation exercises.
  • Have high expectations of trainees including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational and vocational potential.
  • Establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with trainees.
  • Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behavior they expect from trainees.
  • Hold positive values and attitudes and adopt high standards of behavior in their professional role.
  • Uphold the framework for discipline, in line with the IVTEC’s behavior policy/code of conduct.
  • Use a range of behavior management techniques and strategies, adapting them as necessary to promote the self-control and independence of trainees.
Educational Qualifications/Experience
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or any related field.
  • C&G or any relevant technical qualification will confer an added advantage.
  • Candidate must have sufficient expertise and knowledge to provide strategic assistance to HODs in an academic department of a vocational and technical college.
  • Significant experience in a vocational and training institution involving teaching, curriculum management and development.
  • Evidence of ability to provide assistance to the academic department of a vocational and technical college.
  • Ability to conduct workshop practical assessment for the students.
Sufficient experience in the following is highly required:
  • Winding of electrical machines (3-phase) and distribution transformers.
  • ICT Technology skills necessary for vocational education training.
Years in career:
  • Minimum of 5 years
