The Nasarawa State government said it has employed over 2,000 qualified primary school teachers across the 13 local government areas and 18 development areas and has developed the schools to meet international standards.

The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education

Board (NSUBEB), Muhammed Dan-Azumi, who said this yesterday during a media chat in Lafia in reaction to a report describing Governor Umaru Al-Makura’s alma mater as being in shambles, said, “This is one of the public schools we are proud of in terms of conducive learning environment in the state.”

Dan-Azumi said for somebody to write that the school was dilapidated was a mischievous fabrication to tarnish the image of the state and Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

“This is a primary school we see as a premier school and serious attention has been given to it, and not only Dunama Primary School, but all the primary schools across the state,” he said.

He added that the state government had given its utmost priority to the basic education sector to ensure that the schools were developed to meet global standards.

“Before the coming on board of the present administration, pupils used to seat on the bare floor; but now chairs, tables, instructional materials and books have been supplied to all the primary schools. Over 2,000 teachers were recruited,” he said.
