The Population Council is an international, non-profit, non-governmental institution that seeks to improve the well-being and reproductive health of current and future generations around the world and help achieve a humane, equitable and sustainable balance between people and resources. The Councils major program areas are HIV&AIDS, Reproductive Health and Poverty, Gender, and Youth. The Council conducts biomedical, social science and public health research and helps build research capacities in developing countries. The Population Council works in collaboration with a broad range of Nigerian institutions. Due to its imminent roll-out of an ambitious 5-year community-based adolescent girls empowerment program in Northern Nigeria, the Council is seeking qualified individuals to fill the vacant position:

Job Title: Finance Officer

Job Description
  • The successful candidate will provide professional accounting support services consistent with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • S/he is expected to assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and coordination of project activities as outlined hereunder.
  • S/he will have responsibilities for ensuring donor grant reporting and compliance regulations are met by all the national sub-grantees and partners, amid that the Population Council’s accounting system is accurately updated.
  • The officer will also assists with training on compliance, perform internal control assessments, conduct financial reviews and follow-up of audit recommendations.

Qualifications; The ideal candidate must have:
  • Bachelor-level degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting
  • Professional certification or at least final level examination of ANAN, ICAN or ACCA
  • Two to three years work experience in Financial accounting (especially in an NGO)
  • Computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets (MS Excel), MS Access, and Power Point presentation, and use of financial software applications such as Quick books, Peachtree Fund EZ etc.
  • Good interpersonal relations skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interest in development issues.
  • Ability to function optimally in a cross-cultural setting with ease
