Christian Aid is a UK-based international NGO which exists to eradicate poverty around the world. It is currently working in more than 40 countries, and has had its programme in Nigeria since 2003. The Nigeria Country Programme presently focuses on community health and HIV, governance and gender.

Christian Aid Nigeria is looking to recruit a Programme Manager to coordinate the implementation of an intervention ‘Voice to the People’, funded by the UK Government, which will deliver strong results in the area of community-driven accountability in Anambra State, and to shape and oversee Christian Aid’s entire governance programme including its new tax justice work. The role provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic professional who will support Christian Aid partnerships and programmes in its governance work.

Description
  • To lead and manage the partner portfolio and projects within a country or region and within a policy framework agreed with the Head of Division or Region or Country Managers.
  • This role will include managing a team with some technical input and will ensure effective management and development for the programme and appropriate support for partners.
  • To recommend projects to partners and to engage with communications and fundraising including from institutional donors.
  • To ensure a strong link exists between our programme and advocacy and provide representation for programme and on country issues.
  • To engage with effective fundraising, liaison and networking as appropriate.
Essential Criteria
  • Significant experience of implementing governance related projects and programmes.
  • Experience of programme appraisal, monitoring and evaluation and financial management.
  • Significant experience of working with local partner organisations and of programming at community level.
  • Knowledge of programme management tools and techniques, including financial management tools and organisational capacity building tools and techniques.
  • Experience of proposal development and a successful fundraising track record.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively represent Christian Aid at the national, state and local levels.
  • Good knowledge and experience of funding regulations of official donors such as EU, DFID, USAID.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree in a development -related subject or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years experience of working in the development field with not less than 2 years in a managerial position including management of back donor funded projects.
  • Experience of programme appraisal, monitoring and evaluation and financial management
  • Significant experience of working with local partner organisations and of programming at the community level
  • Knowledge of programme management tools and techniques, including financial management tools and organisational
  • capacity building tools and techniques
  • Experience of proposal development and a successful fundraising track record
  • Experience of governance related project and programmes
Desirable
  • Master's degree in International Development or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the socio-political context in the country or region .
  • Experience of managing large and complex budgets and of financial compliance issues.
  • Experience of local and international advocacy work.
  • Knowledge and experience of USAID, DFID and/or EU funding regulations.
