WAICA Reinsurance Corporation Plc is a public limited liability company incorporated under the laws of Sierra Leone (Companies Act 2009) on 7th March 2011.

In the years following the creation of West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) in 1973, the founding fathers had the desire to establish a reinsurance organisation to help mitigate the effects of the lack of reinsurance capacity within the West African insurance industry.

We are seeking to employ a person who will work primarily at the Nairobi, Kenya Office in the position below:

Job Title: Chief Finance Officer

Location
: Nairobi, Kenya

Job Description
  • The Officer will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the organization.
  • The Chief Finance Officer will provide overall strategic and operational leadership of all financial functions of the organization
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organise and manage all financial and accounting functions of the
  • Corporation including timely production of reports.
  • Take responsibility for the implementation of the company’s laid down financial policy and procedure.
  • Put in place a system and measure of financial control in consultation with the CEO and the Board.
  • Prepare annual financial statements ensuring compliance with international Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Review and approve payment vouchers and journal entries and through monthly reconciliations. ensure accuracy of all accounts, ledgers and schedules as well as monitoring of revenues and expenditures.
  • Oversee all treasury activities including banking, investment and liquidity management.
  • Develop and maintain sound internal controls and effective accounting systems and policies over expenses, revenue and fixed assets.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, the Insurance Act, the Companies Code and other regulatory requirements, establishing internal policies and procedures that assure safe and sound business operations, record keeping and proper disclosure of required financial, operational and management information.
  • Review the payroll. Assure compliance with tax, pensions and other labour related laws.
  • Oversee budgets, implementation of budgets, preparation of variance analysis and the institution of strong budgetary control system for cost control, so as to monitor progress and present financial metrics both internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors for the conduct of internal and statutory audits.
  • Any other tasks as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting
  • Professional Qualification in Accounting
  • At least 10 years post qualification related experience with not less than 5 years at the Senior management level
  • Good understanding of insurance and Reinsurance accounting and reporting concepts under IFRS
  • Proficient in word- processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to expertly utilize technology to enhance efficiencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse audiences
  • Work experience in a high energy! fast paced team focused environment.
