Clean Nigeria Associates Limited / Gte (CNA) is a not-for-profit company formed by the oil producing and exploration companies in Nigeria in November 1981 to prevent and control oil spills in Nigeria. The main bases of the Company are located at the Nigerian Ports Authority in Port Harcourt and Warri with the satellite bases in Eket, Brass, Mosimi and Kaduna.

As part of efforts to strengthen its operations and enhance its cap to achieve its goals, CNA seeks to recruit focused, results-oriented and suitably qualified professionals to fill the position below:

Job Description
The Main Base Superintendent will be responsible for equipment handling and maintenance, as well as ensure the smooth running of the base office and general organisation of activities. A key component of this will be to manage relationships with all CNA personnel and work closely with the General Manager and the Health, Safety and Environment/Training Officer. Key responsibilities will be to:
  • Supervise oil spill response planning and dean-up operations, as well as upkeep of the base and day-to-day operations.
  • General and technical evaluation of base personnel.
  • Manage equipment handling and maintenance, as well as maintain an inventory of all CNA assets in the base.
  • Develop a maintenance schedule of all CNA equipment in accordance with the manufacturers’ operations manual, ensuring that all equipment are in a constant state of readiness for deployment.
  • Ensure prompt repairs are carried out on damaged equipment, and that monthly drills are conducted and documented.
  • Recommend oil spill equipment to be sent to site based on technical evaluation of oil spill characteristics, environmental conditions and location of spill.
  • Provide weekly reports as required by the General Manager on all the activities in the base.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
  • A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in the Sciences or Engineering from a reputable higher institution.
  • International Maritime Organisation Level 2 or 3 in oil spill response and management.
  • Relevant safety qualifications.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant experience in oil spills management and environmental waste management
  • Hands-on knowledge of and experience in oil spill response techniques and use of oil spill response equipment.
  • Strong experience in operations management.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Good project management and planning, as well as strong negotiation skills.
  • High ethical standards and level of integrity.
