The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory agency mandated by Government to monitor and regulate the electricity industry in Nigeria. The Commission is committed to promoting and ensuring efficient market structures and an investor-friendly industry to meet Nigeria's need for safe, adequate, reliable and affordable electricity.

To drive the achievement this mandate, the Commission seeks to recruit qualified professionals for vacant positions in the Office of the Chairman and its 6 specialized Divisions.

NERC is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Assistant General Manager - Head, Public Communication

Location:
Any City, Nigeria

Job Description
  • This person will be responsible for managing communication from the Commission to external stakeholders.
  • The job holder will report to the Chairman.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and oversees all external communication strategies in the global and domestic context of program activities, accomplishment and public awareness.
  • Serves as main information source for all contacts requesting data and insights
  • Facilitates and implements the Commission's relationship with industry players and the general public
  • Coordinates and facilitates the Commission's relationship with all stakeholders in conjunction with relevant divisions of the Commission
  • Promotes industry coordination to ensure open and on-going communication amongst players and stakeholders
  • Coordinates interaction with successor companies and other operators in NESI
  • Facilitates the execution of all workshops, conferences, roadshows and seminars organized by the commission within and outside the country in conjunction with relevant divisions.
  • Implements information programs, educational programs with other relevant organizations

Qualifications and Skills
  • A first degree in journalism, public relations, mass communication or a related field.
  • Must possess a relevant professional qualification in journalism, public relations, mass communication, etc.
  • A postgraduate degree is an advantage.
  • 18 years of high profile communication or strategic work in the public or private firms in corporate or public affairs
  • Minimum of 7 years' senior management experience in managing Public Affairs activities in a reputable Organization
  • A good knowledge of the Commission's mandate and the electricity sector
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with media representatives, and government officials
  • Excellent spoken and written English: general ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in writing press releases and articles/stories for traditional and electronic media
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Should be a person who can work closely in a team, is patient, adaptable, flexible, and able to improvise and work in an atmosphere that is often extremely stressful.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing stakeholders across various spheres.
  • Analytical and conceptual skills to think and plan strategically. Skills and experience in communication programmes, monitoring, review and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications, specifically interactive digital media.
