The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory agency mandated by Government to monitor and regulate the electricity industry in Nigeria. The Commission is committed to promoting and ensuring efficient market structures and an investor-friendly industry to meet Nigeria's need for safe, adequate, reliable and affordable electricity.

To drive the achievement this mandate, the Commission seeks to recruit qualified professionals for vacant positions in the Office of the Chairman and its 6 specialized Divisions.

NERC is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Assistant General Manager, Information Technology

Job Summary:

Assistant General Manager, Information Technology is responsible for the Commission’s Information Technology Strategy, Infrastructure and IT/Business Solution delivery; delivery of an effective and efficient IT environment to maximize IT investments; coordinate and manage the delivery of key performance indicators for the function; and liaise with the Commission with the view to recommend and implement technology platforms (hardware and software) that suit the Commission’s technology needs. The job holder reports to the General Manager Finance and Management Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulates and maintains the Commission’s IT strategy and policies
  • Responsible for the administration, control and operation of the integrated information technology infrastructure of the Commission
  • Recommends and specifies IT infrastructure and oversees deployment
  • Oversees the implementation of the Commission’s networking (LAN, WAN) and administration of such
  • Oversees the implementation and management of the Commission website
  • Develops and organizes in-house application training for staff
  • Provides strategic direction and conscientiously advise the Commission on disposal of technologies which are either obsolete or do not conform to standard
  • Identifies and establishes standards for all systems (software and hardware) supported or connected to the network infrastructure. Adopt these standards and communicate them to the end users
  • Drives the Commission’s goals of a paperless office
  • Provides an e-platform strategy for the Commission to manage the industry and growth for effective regulatory supervision

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Possess expert knowledge and experience of:
  • computer hardware and software systems and programs
  • computer network architecture, network administration and network installation
  • computer troubleshooting
  • computer security
  • Significant IT management experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Able to manage time and deadlines
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills

Educational / Professional Qualification(s)
  • A first degree in an Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Computer related field
  • Any other Post Graduate degree in Management is an advantage

Work Experience
  • Minimum of 18 years post qualification experience, at least 5 years of which should have been at management level in a dynamic organization, with responsibilities over ICT
