The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory agency mandated by Government to monitor and regulate the electricity industry in Nigeria. The Commission is committed to promoting and ensuring efficient market structures and an investor-friendly industry to meet Nigeria's need for safe, adequate, reliable and affordable electricity.

To drive the achievement this mandate, the Commission seeks to recruit qualified professionals for vacant positions in the Office of the Chairman and its 6 specialized Divisions.

NERC is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Assistant General Manager, Renewable Energy and Rural Electrification

Any City, Nigeria

Job Description
  • The Assistant General Manager will lead the detailed studies of the structure of the electric power consumption and demand management and projects of future growth in connections, supply and demand of electricity for MYTO, Engineering and customer information.
  • The job holder will report to the Head of Division.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leads studies on renewable sources of power generation.
  • Leads in the development of appropriate regulatory instruments for rural electrification such as rural electrification construction and equipment standards.
  • Leads in development of frameworks for power generation by rural co-operatives/communities for renewable energy based power generation.
  • Leads in designing renewable power related regulations.
  • Conducts studies on economics of renewable based power as input to tariff settings for renewable energy.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A first degree in Engineering, Economics, Physical Sciences or Sociology
  • A Master’s degree or professional qualification will be an advantage
  • Minimum of 18 years post qualification in rural electrification and renewable energy
  • Well-developed research and analyticalskills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are imperative
  • Working knowledge of the rural electrification and renewable energy issues
  • Experience developing related regulations and policies
  • Adept in the use of Renewable & Rural electrification analysis tools such as RETCREEN, ViPOR, Homer software
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to work with a team to deliver set targets
  • A firm grasp of the Commission's mandate and an understanding of the electricity sector in Nigeria
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment
  • Fair knowledge of renewable energy market and conversant with rural electrification issues.
