The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory agency mandated by Government to monitor and regulate the electricity industry in Nigeria. The Commission is committed to promoting and ensuring efficient market structures and an investor-friendly industry to meet Nigeria's need for safe, adequate, reliable and affordable electricity.

To drive the achievement this mandate, the Commission seeks to recruit qualified professionals for vacant positions in the Office of the Chairman and its 6 specialized Divisions.

NERC is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Manager, Renewable Energy and Rural Electrification

Location:
Any City, Nigeria

Job Description
  • The job holder will work with the Principal Manager to drive detailed studies of the structure of the electric power consumption and demand, demand management and projects of future growth in connections, supply and demand of electricity for MYTO, Engineering and customer information.
  • Reports to the Principal Manager Renewable Energy and Rural Electrification.
Key Responsibilities
  • Carries out studies on new and renewable sources of power generation
  • Participates in accessing applications for licences for renewable energy based power generation
  • Participates in designing renewable power related regulations
  • Conducts studies on economics of renewable based power as input to tariff settings for renewable energy
  • Assists in meeting the regulatory requirement of the National Energy Policy and the national Electric Power Policy
  • Designs draft PPA, Connection agreement and system standards for renewable energy based off-grid power supply to remote areas
  • Liaises with Renewable Energy programmes of other Government agencies.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A first degree in Engineering, Economics, Physical Sciences or Sociology.
  • A Master's degree or professional qualification will be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 9 years post qualification in rural electrification and renewable energy.
  • Well-developed research and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are imperative.
  • Working knowledge of the rural electrification and renewable energy issues.
  • Experience developing related regulations and policies
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detailed knowledge of any of the renewable energy and rural electrification simulation packages such as RETCREEN, ViPOR, Homer is an added advantage.
  • A firm grasp of the Commission's mandate and an understanding of the electricity sector in Nigeria.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Fair knowledge of renewable energy market and conversant with rural electrification issues.
