The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory agency mandated by Government to monitor and regulate the electricity industry in Nigeria. The Commission is committed to promoting and ensuring efficient market structures and an investor-friendly industry to meet Nigeria's need for safe, adequate, reliable and affordable electricity.

To drive the achievement this mandate, the Commission seeks to recruit qualified professionals for vacant positions in the Office of the Chairman and its 6 specialized Divisions.

NERC is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Senior Manager, Health and Safety Standards and Compliance

Job summary:
The Senior Manager, Health and Safety Standards and Compliance will provide a key interface with stakeholders on regulatory electricity safety and compliance matters. The job holder will report to the Assistant General Manager Health and Safety Standards and Compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and supervises processes and procedures for inspections, tests and certifications in distribution networks
  • Monitors and reports on electricity safety performance in line with the laid down regulations
  • Monitors, anticipates and where possible influences any changes to electricity afety regulations and communicating the impact of these changes to influence policy development and implementation via stakeholders
  • Provides guidance on the management of incidents and investigating any serious electrical incidents on the licensed operators in line with regulation and legislation

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • A good understanding of the Commission’s mandate and the Electricity sector in Nigeria
  • Attention to detail
  • Adept in the use of the computer, especially Microsoft Office suite
  • A sound understanding of risk identification, analysis and management and safety management schemes
  • Strong investigative, analytical and report writing skills
  • Able to gather, analyse and interpret data on safety matters
  • Possess an unquestionable work ethic, with high level of integrity

Educational / Professional Qualification(s)
  • An Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree from a recognized institution
  • Must be COREN registered
  • Must have a Safety Professional Certification relevant to the Power Industry

Work Experience
  • Minimum of 12 years post-graduation experience
