The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory agency mandated by Government to monitor and regulate the electricity industry in Nigeria. The Commission is committed to promoting and ensuring efficient market structures and an investor-friendly industry to meet Nigeria's need for safe, adequate, reliable and affordable electricity.

To drive the achievement this mandate, the Commission seeks to recruit qualified professionals for vacant positions in the Office of the Chairman and its 6 specialized Divisions.

NERC is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Assistant Manager, Enforcement


Job summary
The Assistant Manager, Enforcement provides experienced support for coordinating Enforcement activities of the Unit. The job holder will report to the Senior Manager Enforcement.

Responsibilities
  • Reviews and evaluates all cases of non-compliance brought by the Monitoring Officers of the various Divisions and advises on the enforcement method to be adopted
  • Writes briefs/ opinions on cases of non-compliance brought to the Unit by the Enforcement Team
  • Ensures proper and hitch free organization of all meetings, proceedings, consultations and hearings of the Enforcement Team or the Commission arising from Enforcement actions
  • Recommends inspection by the Enforcement Team where necessary
  • Recommends and processes cases for imposition of fines and penalties in accordance with the provisions of the law
  • Ensures all subpoenas, resolutions and orders of the Commission are duly served as instructed
  • Prepares and reviews motions, briefs and responses to petitions on behalf to the Commission
  • Reviews and finalises all minutes of meetings held in the Enforcement Team, as well as, hearings in relation to Enforcement in the Commission
Requirements
  • Familiar with Nigerian law, Nigerian legal system, and court processes
  • Ability to work under pressure without supervision
  • High levels of organization and planning
  • Adept at using the computer, especially Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiar with ADR generally and ADR processes in a regulatory environment
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Strong case management skills
  • Able to conduct research and identify innovative ways of executing tasks
  • A first degree in a related discipline is mandatory
  • A Master’s degree is an advantage
  • Minimum of 6 years post graduate experience
