Procter and Gamble Nigeria, a consumer goods brand, said it has created 5,000 direct and indirect jobs in Nigeria with 98 per cent Nigerians as managers since it began operation 25 years ago.

The Managing Director, Mr. George Nassar, said this yesterday while marking the 25th anniversary of the company in Abuja.

He said, “P&G employs about 5,000 people directly and indirectly with Nigerians making up over 98 per cent of our managers locally and some on international assignments.”

Nassar also said its social investments in the country; especially on health and girl child education; had touched over three million Nigerians.

Established in 1992, P&G has six lead brands in the Nigerian market: Pampers, Ariel, Always, Gillette, Oral-B and Safeguard.

Nigeria’s Brand and Commercial Director of P&G, Tolulope Adedeji, who spoke of the "Always School Programme" initiative of the company, said 5.5 million girls across junior secondary schools had been reached on hygiene management in the last five years.

Speaking at the Government Secondary School (GSS), Karu-Abuja, she said P&G partnered with Mercy Corps to provide Menstrual Hygiene Management System (MHMS) for girls in 29 schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The firm said it provided 110,000 girls in the North East with basic education through the UNESCOAlways Programme; and that its Women’s Entrepreneurial Development programme was building the capacity of womendriven business while the Children Safe Drinking Water had provided over 175 million litres of water in Nigeria.

Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Zainab Bagudu, at the event, urged P&G to set up a branch in the state since there were raw materials and stable electricity to bring their social and hygiene products closer to people in the North.
