Job Title: Deputy Regional WASH Coordinator

Job Summary
  • The position is based in Maiduguri, Borno and supervised by the Regional WASH Coordinator.
  • The Deputy Regional WASH Coordinator provides support in ensuring coordination/integration between all ACTION AGAINST HUNGER WASH programs (regular program and Emergency intervention) and other department programs.
Task and Responsibilities
  • Develop strategies to ensure effective integration and coherence of Action Against Hunger WASH program activities - technical designs, constructions, capacity building - in accordance with the mission's country strategy and the national policies.
  • Assist the Reg WASH Coordinator in ensuring compliance of activities within the objectives of the mission and project proposal.
  • Participate in report writing on all WASH specific projects and WASH components of integrated projects to donors.
  • Provide regular updates on WASH program implementation and challenges.
  • Provide input to the review and update technical designs for construction of water and sanitation facilities.
  • Represent the organization in relevant meetings and conferences when required.
  • Review and compile field reports including internal and external reports.
  • Make recommendations for current and future programs.
  • Ensure quality implementation of WASH construction activities, designs and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other sectors and support the organization's advocacy activities related to WASH (follow up on advocacy plans, press releases).
Position Requirements
  • Degree in a technical field preferably in Civil/Environmental Engineering or other related fields.
  • At least 3 year's experience in construction, managing construction/WASH programs in underdeveloped/crisis contexts.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles, Sphere, HAP Standards and other international humanitarian WASH guidelines.
  • Technical designing skills using AutoCAD or ArchCAD.
  • Proposal development, problem solving and reporting writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, team player and ability to work with a diverse team and culture.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision, multitask and pay attention to details.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the field for program monitoring.
  • Excellent planning, formulation, implementation, monitoring and reporting on humanitarian operations.
