We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title:
Hygiene Promoter

Locations: Dikwa - Borno and Adikpo - Benue (with some travels to other project locations)
Department / Sector: WASH
Reporting to: Emergency WASH Advisor

Brief Background
  • NCA has a presence in Nigeria to respond to the Humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria and will scale up an emergency response in the Cross River states. NCA has its core competencies in Gender Based Violence and Water Sanitation and Hygiene
  • NCA has its strengths in works and invest in local partners ensures building their capacities are built from the onset of response, in order to enable them have the capacity to respond in a long-term intervention including recovery and development.
Job Purpose
  • As part of the WASH intervention, to safeguard and improve the public health of the affected population by:
  • Promoting safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services;
  • Ensuring appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities.
Main Duties
Information Management:
  • Help plan and carry out needs assessments, baseline studies and periodic studies, and feedback findings to stakeholders.
  • Collate data from Community Mobilisers and prepare regular reports on activities and WASH conditions for monitoring.
  • Coordinate with water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion field staff to ensure that the various aspects of the WASH response are integrated.
  • Coordinate with community leaders and other sectors and also with the WASH cluster working locally in order to coordinate within the WASH sector.
Implementation:
  • Promote safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services.
  • Ensure that action is taken to mitigate priority water and sanitation related health risks.
  • Facilitate appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities.
  • Monitoring and following up the distribution of hygiene kits.
  • Enable effective dialogue with the affected community to allow the agency to be held to account for the quality of the WASH programme.
  • Help identify needs for non-food items relevant to hygiene, participate in the choice of items, targeting strategy, promotion of effective use, and post-distribution monitoring.
Resources Management:
  • Train, provide support and manage Community Mobilisers or other hygiene outreach workers.
Programme Approach:
  • Use participatory approaches as a far as possible throughout the programme cycle, in training, and in the use of tool kits and other materials.
  • Supervise Hygiene Promotion activities and resources.
Qualification, Skills and Requirements
  • B.Sc Degree on Health Promotion, Community Development, Education, Community Water Supply and other related fields
  • At least two year experience of working in humanitarian response with local and/international partner organizations.
  • Practical experience on the use of participatory tools for promotion of sanitation and hygiene
  • Applications are only expected from nationals
  • Must have good assessment, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Good oral and written reporting skills in English.
  • Training/counterpart development skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team under difficult circumstances
  • Familiarity with the culture of the affected population, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on hygiene matters.
