Job Description
  • UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) is the wing of the British Government which supports UK companies to export overseas and encourages foreign investment in Britain.
  • UKTI Nigeria pursues that agenda locally and operates from offices in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
  • The section is currently re-structuring and is looking to recruit a locally employed Deputy Director for the Lagos team. The successful candidate will work with another Deputy Director to support the Director in delivering the objectives of the team.
The successful candidate will:
  • Lead on managing our pipeline of activity and ensure that our services reach the required standards both in quantity and quality.
  • S/he will also supervise two teams pursuing business opportunities in infrastructure, transport, education and financial services.
  • Experience in these particular sectors would be an advantage and successful exposure to business development activity essential.
  • Directly manage two Senior Trade Development managers and will have appraisal input into the two teams s/he supervises.
Candidates will be expected to meet the competences for this senior position which is graded C4L.
Interviews will focus on these competences and expect the candidates to illustrate examples of their approach in these areas. The competences include:

Requirements
  • Candidates must have a relevant first degree as a minimum.
  • He/she must be a self-starter and have proven significant service delivery and target driven experience, preferably in the commercial world.
  • He/she must have sound knowledge of the local business environment/practices and excellent communication (written and oral) and presentation skills.
  • In addition, he/she should have significant experience in people management and demonstrate strong I.T. skills.
Travel within Nigeria and to UK is an integral part of the job.
This is a fixed term 12-month renewable contract from start date. Working hours 0730 - 1530 Monday to Thursday and 0730 -1230hrs on Fridays. Flexible working options are available.

The job will be graded C4(L) with a starting salary of N631,985.00 monthly. Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary. The salary will be paid in Naira.
