News: NATFORCE Plans To Create 10,000 Jobs

NATFORCE - No fewer than 10,000 jobs would soon be created within the next five months. That is the assurance of the, Director General, National Taskforce on Illegal Importation of Arms, Ammunitions and Light weapons (NATFORCE), Dr Emmanuel Okereke.

Dr Okereke made the declaration in Lagos, while inaugurating the executive members of the Lagos State chapter of the organisation. He said that the objective of the organisation was to create three million jobs for young people across the country within the next four years.

According to him, job-creation agenda of the organisation would also ensure effective crime control and management in the country. Dr Okereke explained that NATFORCE was formed by the Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN) to support efforts of the Federal government in fighting the proliferation of small arms, ammunition and light weapons in West Africa through a public- private partnership.

He also said that the Lagos chapter of the organization would commence training of 10,000 officers immediately, adding that the trainees would later be deployed to various communities in the next three months. "Lagos State is the commercial nerve centre of the country and the economic hub of trade in the West African sub region. Therefore, it is essential for NATFORCE to work with other security agencies to ensure safety by ridding the state off small fire arms. Beside monitoring illegal importations of arms, ammunition's and light weapons, the organisation would make sure that goods imported into the country are of high standard and tally with what is quoted in the performa invoice," he said.

Earlier, the coordinator, South West zone of NARTFORCE, Otunba Folorunso Ibrahim had called on Nigerians to be alert and security conscious at all times, urging them to report any suspicious persons or groups to the security agents.

In his remarks, Mr Agba Ancho who is the Lagos director, NARTFORCE, assured that members of his executives would discharge their duties fearlessly and bring glory to the organisation and their fatherland. He disclosed that arrangements were already on ground to offer adequate training to his members. "We would continue to abide by the laws guiding our operations and shun any form of extortion," he said.

The highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of the Lagos State executive members of the organisation which included: Mazi Ifeanyi Mbanefo, chairman; Mr Agba Ancho, director; Mr. Prosper Okolo, deputy chairman, Prince Adekunle Dosunmu, Secretary General; Alhaji Babatunde Onipede, vice chairman; Chief Leo Okafor, Financial Director, and Chief John Uche, public relations officer.
