CRS programs assist person on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality works through local church and non-church partners to implement its programs, therefore, strengthening and building the capacity of these partner organizations is fundamental to programs in every country in which CRS operates. CRS re-established presence in Nigeria m 2000 and currently focuses on agriculture, HIV and health extractives and governance, and peace building programming.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Project Background
  • In response to the “crisis-level” food insecurity resulting from the Boko Haram conflict in northeast Nigeria, CRS is implementing a food assistance program in Yobe state.
  • The CRS Emergency Food Assistance Program will assist households in Gujba and Gulani LGAs through the distribution of monthly cash vouchers for food, thereby helping Internally Displaced Persons (IPD) and IDP-host households feed their families while strengthening markets with local sales.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Market Officer (MO), and with guidance from the Market Program Manager, the Market Assistant (MA) is responsible for the daily project activities in her/his geographic location, while maintaining relationships with vendors and beneficiaries. This will include:
  • Relationship building with vendors, partners and community members
  • The timely and accurate processing all receipts needed for the liquidation of vendor payments from their shop sales
  • Updating beneficiary records as needed in the cash asset transfer platform
  • The monitoring and oversight of vendor shops and sales to ensure the protection of community members participating in markets-based programming
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development or any other relevant field
  • At least 1 years' experience in project implementation preferably with an NGO
  • Ability to speak local languages - Kanuri and Hausa - is a must
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to organize and prioritize a variety of initiatives
  • Willingness to travel about 70% of the time.
  • Proficiency in MS office application such as word, excel, PowerPoint and outlook
  • Demonstrated experience in data collection
  • Proven experience in group discussions and other participatory methods
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender responsive programming.
  • Team-oriented and strong interpersonal skills
  • Previous market experience with CRS is desired
Key Working Relationships:
  • Supervisory: The market assistant has no supervisory relationships
  • Internal: The Market Assistant will work closely with the entire Markets and Nutrition teams, as well as the counterparts in other departments
  • External: The Market Assistant will develop close working relationships with the partner staff based in geographical area of responsibility, as well as other stakeholders including focal points from government offices, non-governmental organizations and other agencies. The Market Assistant will need to develop working relationships with local community members and leaders.
  • Required Language: Fluency in English and Fluency in Hausa required
  • Required Travel: This position will require frequent travel to program activity sites.
