We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: PHP Officer

Direct Line Manager: WASH Manager

Objective 1
  • Overall supervision of Public Health Promotion and Non-food items distribution activities following AAH’s local strategy and International Guidelines
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that a KAP baseline survey is carried out, analysis done and hygiene promotion strategy is designed on the basis of the findings (for projects more than three months long)
  • In coordination with the WASH Manager, revise and adapt hygiene promotion training material to local context and in line with target groups to be trained
  • In coordination with the WASH Manager, revise and adapt all IEC materials in line with the local context. This should be drawn up as a communication plan.
  • Continually assess emergency needs, as requested, especially taking in the broader perspective of public health.
  • Plan beneficiary selection and registration, and led the distribution of NFI kits with the Field Assistant team.
  • Ensure that work meets with SPHERE minimum standards.
  • Assist the WASH Manager with, and where required participate in, community mobilization.
  • Ensure that all technical work reflects the needs and preferences of different target groups.
Objective 2
  • Train and build the capacity of staffs and partners
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the PHP & NFI team members are fully aware of the hygiene promotion Strategy and all activities are in line with strategy activities.
  • Prepare training tools on relevant technical topics and conduct trainings for both internal staff and external stakeholders.
  • Assist the WASH Manager in the development of technical guidelines and tools.
  • Assess areas for improvement and recording lessons learnt for future activities.
Objective 3
  • Coordinate with internal staffs and local stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Liaise closely with the WASH manager throughout the planning, design and implementation stages of WASH technical activities.
  • Represent AAH at local level WASH meetings and technical working groups relating to Public health promotion and NFI distribution as required by your line manager
Objective 4
  • Supervise and manage staffs under your responsibility
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in staff’s recruitment in line with agreed organogram structure.
  • Provide day-to-day management of staff directly under your responsibility.
  • Set objectives with staff under your direct management, and appraise their performance in accordance with AAH performance management policies, identifying areas where they require support and capacity building
  • Ensure that your team co-ordinate and integrate with WASH technical team members.
  • Ensure that gender issues are taken into account
  • Report regularly, verbally and in writing, to the  WASH  Manager
Internal & External Relationship
Internal:
  • WASH Manager: technical hierarchical relationship - exchange of information, collaboration, coordination
  • WASH Technical Officer: Collaborate with the WASH Technical Officer to ensure exchange of information, collaboration and coordination
External:
  • Local governmental and non-governmental partners: exchange of information, coordination, training, supervision, influence on the choice of technical options
  • Local representatives of international aid organisations: exchange of information
Qualifications
  • Degree in Public Health, Sociology, Rural Development, and other related fields
Skills & Experience
Essential:
  • Previous experience in supervising hygiene promotion activities
  • Professional, good organizational capacity, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive
  • Three years of relevant work experience
  • Microsoft Office software Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word)
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
  • Fluency in Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa and English
  • Commitment to ACF mission, values and policy
Preferred:
  • Previous experience of work in the humanitarian sector
  • Good knowledge of the intervention area/s and local economy
  • Previous experience with AAH
  • Previous donor programming experience (e.g. USAID, ECHO, DFID, CIDA)
