Summary - The work schedule for this position is:
  • Full Time (40 hours per week)
  • Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Basic Function of the Position
  • The incumbent reports directly to the Senior Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI) and conducts background investigations of new and existing locally employed staff as well as sponsored contract staff.
  • The FSNI conducts special investigation, maintains police high level liaison and performs security supports of Consulate events and travel program.
Requirements, Qualifications and Evaluations
  • Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in investigative work with a military, police or private organization is required.
  • Job Knowledge: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of investigation is required. Thorough and current knowledge of Nigeria's security environment and workings of the various security organizations is required.
  • Education Requirements: College (2 years) or Post-Secondary School
Evaluations - This may be tested:
  • Language: Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required. Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa is required.
  • Skills And Abilities: Ability to maintain extensive contacts with officials of various local agencies including the Police. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and to report facts accurately in a logical, concise and objective manner. Must have a valid Nigeria driver's license.

Agency Benefits:
  • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
  • This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.

Salary
  • NGN N8,383,885 per annum
