Job Title: HSE Officer (Administration)

Key Responsibilities
  • To regularly monitor OHS&E standards and procedures in the Terminal therefore ensuring smooth running of daily shifts in safety related matters.
  • To assist in the implementation OHS&E Management System within the port and ensure compliance thereto.
  • To conduct routine inspections related to OHS&E therefore ensuring operational area is compliant in all matters relating to OHS&E.
  • To advise personnel and ensure training is provided in all OHS&E related matters to all new and existing personnel.
  • To record and maintain a database of all inspections conducted, follow up and identify corrective actions.
  • To coordinate with Port and Local Authority bodies for mutual assistance and liaise with government agencies during emergencies to mitigate loss of life and damage to property.
  • Undertake investigations with the view of establishing causes thereof, and recommend / initiate steps to prevent a recurrence thereof – Follow-up on actions to prevent a recurrence until closed out.
  • Develop and ascertain toolbox talks are carried out with members of other departments.
  • Maintain and direct the company’s health, safety, environmental and training operational procedures and activities in an effective and cost efficient manner with due regard for quality and productivity, in line with APMM global strategies.
  • Evaluates potential risks to personnel or the port and advises manager.
  • To provide clerical support to manager for smooth functioning of department activities.
  • To organize Safety Committee and other safety meetings and prepare and circulate minutes.
  • To compile and send out daily/weekly/monthly accident/incident reports to relevant departments for reference and decision making.
  • To sort documents from various sources in an easy to retrieve format for reference and documentation
  • Administer the processes for data collection, collation and report generation to meet periodic and ad hoc information requests. These reports include: Monthly Safety Performance reports CMO reporting requirements (monthly & annually)
  • Ensure safety notice boards are posted in all departments and that departments, employees , visitors and contractors are up to date with current safety relevant practices. Copied from: www.hotnigerianjobs.com
Requirements
Who we are looking for
This position;
  • Requires completion of secondary school and vocational instruction and/or college degree in safety management, environmental science, police science or related discipline.
  • Requires at least five years of safety and/or fire-fighting experience, either in the public or private sector & at least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Requires an understanding of fire-fighting and rescue techniques.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of security procedures for buildings and perimeter security.
  • Requires an understanding of chemical hazards and hazardous materials and the corresponding appropriate handling of them.
  • Must have a full understanding of preventative security measures for buildings and port facilities
  • Requires full understanding of local safety laws and regulations.
  • Requires an understanding of international standards of safe work practices for the industry.
  • Requires an understanding of work injuries, the investigation process to determine cause, and the process to assess practical solutions.
  • Must be physically fit, meeting rigorous medical standards and the ability to wear breathing apparatus.
  • Must be able to handle heights and enclosed spaces.
  • Must be able to work in extremely hot and dusty conditions, and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
  • Must have extensive knowledge in investigative procedures and report-writing.
  • Requires the ability to communicate both in English & the local language.
  • Requires excellent organizational skills, including planning, directing, and monitoring activities.
  • Requires good problem-solving skills, with an ability to define the problem, examine solutions, and select the best solution, and this must be done at times immediately under stress
  • Requires ability to remain calm, but able to direct others, in times of emergency.
  • Requires certification in first aid and CPR
