The
American University of Nigeria, Yola, is seeking Permanent Academic Advisors. This position is local position and opens to indigenous and/or legal residents of Nigeria.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Academic Advisor
Location: Yola, Adamawa
Summary of Position:
- The Academic Advisor assesses student needs, goals, interests and prior academic experiences in order to guide students in the design and implementation of a successful academic plan.
- The position shall collaborate with faculty members to address the academic advising needs of individuals or group of students.
- The position shall report directly to the Assistant Director Advising and Retention.
- She/he will be required to work on separate scheduled office hours
Position Requirements
- A Bachelors' degree in a related field from a recognized tertiary institution with a minimum of three (3) years' experience working with college students or young adults in an academic or career services counseling capacity.
- Sound understanding of academic advising and student development theory, and success in working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and students.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Flexibility on time/office hours is very key to this position
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators and other staff members;
- Ability to make balanced judgments and decisions;
- Ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Attentive listening skills.

Remuneration
- Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and job classification as approved by the University.
