Job Title: Group Head, Legal

Location:
Abuja

Key Responsibilities

Overseeing all legal affairs across the various companies:
  • Agro & Telecomm, Oil & Gas, Mortgage Bank, Capital Project & Equipment Management, Aluminum roofing sheets, Microfinance Bank, Haulage and Transportation and Real Estate Construction and evaluating them according to established goals.
Legal Advisory/Contractual Agreements/Litigation Related Matters:
  • Prepare and review of simple letters and contracts on behalf of the Company;
  • Liaise with company lawyers in the drafting of contracts, review of contracts and preparation of court case files
Regulatory & Compliance Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the company fills out and submits all its legal paperwork
  • Carry out SON Products registrations of the Company’s products;
  • Keep records of and notify all business Units of the progress of Type Approval Registrations and SON Product registrations;
Company Secretary:
  • Taking of meeting minutes and preparation of reports to management
  • Maintain a good record of contracts, MOUs and Legal documents
Other Responsibilities:
  • Manage the legal budget to get the most services for the least money
  • Maintenance of proper documentation, compliance checklists and regular tracking of records, approvals and related transactions
Requirements
  • B.L Degree from the Nigeria Law School
  • Minimum of LLB and LL.M degree from a reputable university
  • Member of Nigerian Bar Association
  • Minimum of 12 years work experience of which 6 should be in a senior management position.
  • Exposure to reviewing Term Sheets, Business Agreements, Due Diligence research and Regulatory Compliance Job
  • Strong understanding of Business/Market Risk & Compliance
  • Ability to review Legal / Compliance documents and assess in qualitative/quantitative terms the business impact or risk mitigation needs
  • To be well versed with Law of Contracts, Property Laws, Land Laws, Commercial Laws and Corporate Laws
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Process turnaround and general performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Level of adherence to mandatory reporting requirements (quality of reporting & completion deadlines)
  • Availability of up–to-date and comprehensive information on each legal document
  • Ease of access to company legal records
  • Quality and effectiveness of day-to-day professional advice and other support provided
  • Effectiveness of project administration on legal assignments and projects
  • Quality and comprehensiveness of legal information/data
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Total cost of services (inside and outside)
  • Legal spend as percentage of revenue
  • Percentage of cases solved/resolved successfully
