Job Title: Protection Officer

Job Summary
  • The Protection Officer will ensure that protection and gender mainstreaming are integrated into all aspect of programming.
  • S/he will support in developing tools for the protection team to ensure they are accurate and comprehensive.
  • The Protection Officer will be responsible for identifying training needs of protection assistants in all locations, ensuring that protection mainstreaming is used effectively in all programming.
  • S/he will also conduct field visits to conduct Protection Mainstreaming assessments and site visits.
  • The Protection Officer will work with diverse communities including but not limited to persons with specific needs, IDPs, returnees, and persons with specialized protection concerns.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support in developing tools to ensure up to date and technically sound mechanisms are in place for gender and protection mainstreaming.
  • Identify and train protection assistants to conduct protection mainstreaming on a regular basis
  • Deliver trainings to project team on protection principles, protection mainstreaming, accountability to affected populations, and other relevant topics.
  • Conduct field visits to distribution sites, areas of operation, centers, and other areas where Human Appeal conducts activities.
  • Compile information from protection focal points and provide weekly reports to the Gender and Protection Manager and the relevant thematic manager with observations and recommendations to enhance the protection environment.
  • Provide verbal and written feedback on a daily basis to direct supervisor; assist in writing regular narrative and quantitative reports when requested.
  • Writing regular narrative reports for the donor for each field site visited.
  • Participates in protection working group and cluster meetings
  • Maintain and promote a positive image of CARE International and its core values of (Transformation, Integrity, Diversity, Equality and Empowerment).
  • Carryout any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in Law, Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Gender Studies, Psychology, and any related qualifications
Experience:
  • 2+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in gender or GBV Programme development and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build partnerships with governments, NGOs, CSOs and women’s groups.
  • Experience of working on legal issues and civil society.
  • Proven ability to conduct capacity development training and provide supportive supervision in the field of gender and GBV.
