Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, - Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Shell-JV Professor of Geophysics, Sponsored by the NNPC/Shell/Total/NAOC Joint Venture, in the Department of Geology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Job Description

Candidates may have interests in any field of Applied Geophysics, but should have a commitment and ability both to interact with the Oil industry and to be interested in applied problems. Candidates should have a strong record of research. The successful candidate will be required to exert strong academic and intellectual leadership in the Department by participating actively in both teaching and research and will have responsibility for the development of the research programme of the Department. He/She must possess ability to administer a dynamic research unit.

Qualification

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. Degree and possess a minimum of ten (10) years of research and teaching plus experience in the oil and gas industry. Persons presently below the rank of professor in a recognized institution of higher learning or Cliief Geophysicist in the Oil and Gas Industry need not apply.

Conditions of Service:
The appointment is subject to the laws of the University and to such conditions governing academic appointments in general. The appointment will be made on the maximum approved Federal Government of Nigeria salary scale for a Professor plus a Shell premium. The Shell Professor of Geophysic will have close working relationship with SHELL and be entitled to annually funded research programmes, attendance at conferences, and will have a Secretary and two (2) Research Assistants.

Duration:

The professorial appointment to the Chair will be for a period of four years, renewable once, and at the discretion of SHELL NIGERIA.
