Federal Government - Worried by the dearth of skilled artisans and craftsmen in the country, the Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development is collaborating with the National Home Builders Institute USA to train 1000 artisans and craftsmen within the year for the enhancement of their skills and competencies.

Supervising Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Architect Musa Sada disclosed this in a media chat recently, saying that the training will focus on building structures, building services and finishing.

"The target participants are block and bricklayers, plumbers, painters, carpenters and joiners, tillers, terrazzo, marble and plasterers, aluminium fabricators and welders, "Sada said. He added that "it will also involve building competencies in landscaping, solar energy, facilities maintenance and weatherization.

"According to him, an entrepreneurial component of the training programme will be targeted at graduates of tertiary institutions who are seeking fulfillment in other vocations beyond the white collar jobs.
