We are recruiting to fill the following position:

Responsibilities
  • To take responsibility for coverage of the Consumer sector in West Africa and selected SSA names beyond the region, within the CIB Research team, with a particular focus on Nigeria.
  • The candidate will form and maintain a view on designated corporates, produce written research and build a franchise with with internal and external (domestic and Internationals) clients on the sector.
  • The candidate will also work within the wider group research platform to develop pan African research product to market to our institutional investor client base.
  • Build and maintain financial models for designated names within the consumer space
  • Develop/maintain opinions on valuation of designated companies based on quantitative and qualitative analysis and make investment recommendations
  • Produce timely, commercially relevant research , both maintenance and thematic on the relevant names/sector
  • Communicate opinions in writing and orally to Buy Side analysts and portfolio managers as well as Sales and Sales Trading in relevant geographies (Lagos, London, NY and JHB)
  • Work with Consumer Research, based in Johannesburg to develop the research franchise for the sector with external and internal clients
  • Develop relationships with key personnel within corporates to enable access to information for research purposes as well as investor access
  • Contribute to the overall development of the Stanbic IBTC and Standard Bank equity business franchise
  • Support Investment banking with data for your sector as required
Key Performance Measures
  • Volume of output: Consistent production of timely, commercially relevant research
  • Build research franchise: Frequency of client interaction and client requests and survey ratings
  • Effectiveness of client interaction: Feedback from internal & External clients (sales, sales trading, IB as appropriate)
  • Corporate Access
  • Ranking and scores within broker surveys as appropriate
  • Contribution to the franchise of the equities business
Key Dimensions of the Job
  • Develop/maintain opinions on designated companies based on quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Communicate opinions in writing and orally to Buy Side analysts and portfolio managers as well as Sales and Sales Trading in relevant geographies (Lagos, London, NY and JHB)
  • Working to deadlines on both bespoke and periodic research
  • Respond in a timely manner to newsflow, using the appropriate channels and in accordance with compliance guidelines
  • Supporting Investment banking with data for your sector as required
  • Develop relationships with key personnel within corporates to enable access to information for research purposes as well as investor access
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting discipline or at least CFA level 1
  • Knowledge of the Nigerian financial markets or Emerging Market/Frontier Market experience
  • Strong MS Office Skills, esp Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg
  • 5+ years experience in equity research on either the buy side or the sell side in a ‘non-financials sector’
  • Track record of effective communication of ideas
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to think independently yet work within a team and learn from peers
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
