The Global Fund is a 21st-century partnership organization designed to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics, Founded in 2002, the Global Fund is a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and people affected by the diseases. The Global Fund raises and invests nearly US$4 billion a year to support programs run by local experts in countries and communities most in need. Since 2003, the Global Fund has invested more than 1.4 billion dollars in the fight against AIDS, TB and Malaria in Nigeria.

To strengthen this operations and interventions in the country, we are partnering with Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) to fill the capacity below:

Job Title: Laboratory Specialist

Location: Akwa Ibom
Project: SIDHAS
Contract Type: Fixed Term

Description

  • Laboratory Specialist Provide technical expertise and assistance in implementing high quality laboratory services within the care and treatment project at the state level, including laboratory capacity development at project health facility sites,
  • Will also provide technical support on policies, quality tools and SOPs related to the implementation, monitoring and quality assurance of laboratory services for HIV/AIDS, opportunistic (OI) and malaria care and treatment in collaboration with technical staff within AHNi and at national, state and local agencies in Nigeria.

Minimum Requirement Standards

  • BSc in Laboratory Sciences or related field with 3-5 years post national youth service experience and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in provision of laboratory support for HIV/AIDS.
  • Or Master degree in Laboratory Sciences or related field with 1 - 3 years post national youth service experience and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in provision of laboratory support for HIV/AIDS.
  • Experience in the management of laboratory services, particularly health facility-based services, including quality assurance systems, laboratory analysis, and interpretation and reporting techniques based on best practices, quality management practices and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of advanced laboratory procedures, diagnosis and management related to HIV/AIDS care and treatment is required with some experience in an international development organization preferred.
  • Certification of license to practice as a medical laboratory scientist is required.
  • Expertise in haematology, TB and blood safety issues will be an added advantage.
