Day Waterman College is a modern co-educational boarding school designed to provide an exciting learning environment for children between the ages of 11 - 16. We provide a broad-based education of international standard to meet global needs. The College is set on 35 hectares of natural landscape in Asu, near Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Facilities and equipment of outstanding quality have been provided to support the learning environment, including access to safe recreational areas.

Duties and Responsibilities
Those duties and responsibilities undertaken by a teacher in relation to the teaching of children and the organisation of Day Waterman College:
  • Planning and preparing work for pupils assigned to him/her.
  • Teaching according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to him/her including the setting and marking of class work and homework carried out by those pupils, the number of lessons should not normally exceed that limit which has been agreed in the college.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress, and attainment achieved by those pupils assigned to him/her.
  • Communicating and consulting, in accordance with DWC guidelines and circulars, with the parents of the pupils he/she is assigned to teach.
  • Participating in any arrangements within the agreed DWC framework for the appraisal of his/her performance.
  • Regularly reviewing his/her methods of teaching and programme of work.
  • Participating in arrangements for his/her further training and professional development as a teacher as is appropriate.
  • Taking all reasonable steps to maintain good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are on the college premises and when they are engaged in authorised college activities elsewhere.
  • Participating as appropriate in meetings at the college which relate to the curriculum, administration, or organisation of the college.
  • Participating in arrangements, as appropriate, for preparing pupils for public examination and assessment approved by the secretary of relevant examining boards, recording and reporting such assessments and participating in arrangements for pupils' presentation for and supervision during such examinations.
  • Participating in an equitable system of cover in accordance with policies agreed by DWC.
  • Attending assemblies unless a dispensation has been granted, registering the attendance of pupils, and supervising pupils, whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after college sessions in accordance with DWC policy.
SPECIFIC - Tutor
  • To ensure that the register is marked punctually and kept up-to-date as required by DWC. All absence should be accounted for by notes from the matrons/progress tutors and any problems reported to the form tutor.
  • To deal with other returns and requests for information about pupils in the Tutor Group as required.
  • To contribute to, and assist as required in keeping up-to-date the pupil records for each pupil in the Tutor Group.
  • To contribute to references, reports to outside agencies and the like, in consultation with colleagues.
  • To implement the College Policy on personal appearance, uniform and behaviour of the pupils.
  • To help pupils with individual guidance as necessary.
  • To attend assembly with the form unless a dispensation has been granted.
SPECIFIC- English
  • Contribute to internal Inset programmes as appropriate
  • Explore the use of various new technologies and applications to promote learning within English Language and English Literature.
  • Promote cultural entitlement through contributions to the Department/Curriculum area extra-curricular and enrichment offers, including college journeys, where appropriate.
  • Co-operate with other teachers on the development of programmes of study, teaching materials and methods of assessment.
  • Be confident in delivering English Language and Literature through the use of changing e-learning resources.
  • Participate in the departmental training and meetings and act as minute taker during the meetings
  • Ensure willingness to gain relevant knowledge in the delivery of the curriculum.
Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Qualified teacher status.
Experience
  • Ability to use ICT effectively.
  • Use ICT to raise achievement.
  • High quality teaching assistance to pupils of all abilities.
  • Collaborative teaching methods and working with colleagues in the preparation, assessment and monitoring work.
  • Demonstrable experience of improving student outcomes.
  • Experience as a form tutor and or/ pastoral work.
  • High quality outcomes.
