The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional group of fifteen West African countries. Founded on 28 May 1975, with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, its mission is to promote economic integration across the region. Considered one of the pillars of the African Economic Community, the organization was founded in order to achieve collective self-sufficiency for its member states by creating a single large trading bloc through an economic and trading union. It also serves as a peacekeeping force in the region. The organization operates officially in three co-equal languages French, English, and Portuguese.

Job Title: Project Assistant, Climate change

Duration: Three (3) years ,renewable subject to available funding and satisfactory performance

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Project Assistant will provide project management support as well as perform administrative support functions, which may include, but not limited to clerical duties such as personnel, registry, procurement and records management.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of project work plans and progress reports
  • Support the preparation of documentation for workshops and briefing sessions
  • Collect, register, maintain information on project activities by reviewing reports and through first hand sources
  • Exchange of official correspondence relating to the project activities
  • Arrange appointments for supervisor, receive visitors, draft response to routine requests for information and assist in making travel arrangements for project personnel
  • Maintain office filing system, prepare minutes of meetings
  • Interpret and process entitlements, issuance of contracts and maintenance of various personnel records and files
  • Undertake any other assignments that the Project Coordinator may deem necessary.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills
  • Ordinary National Diploma or equivalent in Project Management, Public Administration, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management or similar area.
  • Practical experience in similar position/projects
  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in project management and/or public administration;
  • Possession of a higher degree would reduce the required experience to four (4) years
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, e-mail and internet
Age
Candidate should not be 50 years old or over at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS member states.

Language

Fluency in oral and written expression in any one of the ECOWAS working languages: English, French and Portuguese. Knowledge of a second official language would be an advantage.

Remuneration

Annual Salary: USD 19,388 - USD 25,781
