The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) was established on 22 May 1964 in N’Djamena, Republic of Chad.  The Commission was established upon recognizing the need to formulate principles of the use of resources of the Basin for economic purposes, including the harnessing of water resources. The mandate of the Commission is to sustainably and equitably manage the Lake Chad and other shared water resources of the Lake Chad Basin, preserve the ecosystems of the Lake Chad Conventional Basin, to promote regional integration, peace and security across the Basin.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Fisheries and Aquaculture Expert

Location: N’Djamena, Chad
Contract Duration: Three (3) years renewable subject to performance evaluation

Job Profile

  • In a bid to strengthen its staff, LCBC is recruiting one (1) Fisheries and Aquaculture Expert to serve at its Executive Secretariat located in Ndjamena, Republic of Chad.

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Collect the data (together with basic GIS information) and prepare the annual reports on: - Fishing and aquaculture productions (in fresh, smoke, salted and dried form) - fishing effort, - fishermen (professionals, agro-fishers)-the migration of fishermen, - the main commercial fish species, - Accompanying member states in the context of harmonising their policy, strategy, fisheries and aquaculture regulations in the basin, To provide the secretariat for the cross-border expert working group on fisheries resources and aquaculture;
  • Working with ecosystem and water resource experts in preparing CBLT’S integrated reports on the state of the Lake Chad Basin in collaboration with the ILEC Planning and Strategy expert; Work with national authorities to collect and analyze the required data; Make recommendations on future activities related tO the PAS and CBLT’s GIRE Plans; Provide leadership and guidance for the following functions related to the position.
  • Ensure that an appropriate performance evaluation mechanism is put in place, accepted by all and applied to all functions in the area of Responsibility for the position Prepare a succession plan for his own position but also for the important functions related to this.

Qualifications, Skills, & Experiences required

  • Degree in Engineering specializing in continental fishing and aquaculture at Master's level - 10 years of professional experience in a similar field;
  • 5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial position in a similar context;
  • Excellent leadership, management and communication skills; Lead a multidisciplinary and multicultural team;
  • Good personal organization with the ability to establish priorities effectively and adapt to rapid change;
  • Mastery of the computer tool (MS Office and other specialized software) is mandatory;
  • Experience in the public sector or in an NGO, preferably in a multicultural environment, would be an advantage.
  • Language ability: Perfect command of the French and/or English language is required
  • Maximum Age: 50 years.
