Job Title: Deputy Company Secretary / Head, Human Resource (DCS / HHR)

Location: Abuja

Job Roles

  • The DCS / HHR shall serve as Deputy Company Secretary / Head, Human Resources of the Company with such customary responsibilities, duties and authority as may from time to time be assigned to her by the Chairman / Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or the Board of Directors of the Company.
  • The DCS / HHR shall, in the course of her duties report directly to the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser on legal matters, to the Chief Operating Officer, on HR matters, and to the CEO on other special duties and assignments relating to other member Companies of the CPL Group.
  • The DCS / HHR shall be responsible for the following Legal Duties:
    • Assist the Company Secretary / Legal Adviser in preparation of a variety of legal documents and Agreements.
    • Handle Statutory, Regulatory Agencies’ compliance matters including Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) obligations on behalf of the Company.
    • Handle Trademarks and other Intellectual Property related matters and registrations.
    • Accompany the Company Secretary / Legal Adviser to meetings and prepare Minutes of meetings.
    • Study Case Law, make notes and prepare Briefs where needed.
    • Conducting research and providing Legal Opinions and Advise.
    • Attend meetings
    • Perform all such legal duties and assignments as may be assigned by the Company Secretary / Legal Adviser.
  • The DCS / HHR shall be responsible for the following HR Duties:
    • Analyze wage and salary reports and data to determine competitive compensation plan.
    • Prepare directives advising department managers of company policy regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits.
    • Develop and maintain a human resources system that meets top management information needs.
    • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance with Regulations. Study Legislations, Arbitration Decisions, and Collective Bargaining Contracts to assess Industry trends.
    • Recruit, interview, test, and select employees to fill vacant positions.
    • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward Company goals.
    • Keeps records of benefits plans and participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and general employee statistics for record purposes.
    • Coordinate management training in interviewing, hiring, termination, promotion, performance review, and safety.
    • Advise Management on appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
    • Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programmes of the Company.
    • Administer performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization. Administer salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
    • Administer benefits programmes such as life, health, and group accident insurance, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
    • Investigate accidents and prepare reports for insurance carrier. Coordinate Safety Committee meetings and acts as Safety Director.
    • Prepare Employees’ Payrolls for payment of monthly salaries and design yearly Leave Roaster.
    • Prepare Budget for Human Resources operations.
    • Prepare reports and recommend procedures to reduce absenteeism and overall turnover.
    • Represent the Company at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
    • Represent the Company at the any negotiations with workers and Union Groups
  • Perform all such duties or responsibilities as may be assigned by Management.

Requirements
Education:

  • LLB Law degree from a recognized university
  • BL and call to the Nigerian Bar.
  • LLM will be an advantage.
  • Certificate in Human Resource.

Experience:

  • 5 - 7 years’ experience Legal Practice and Corporate matters
  • Experience in a legislative affairs or legal drafting department of relevant organizations and with at least 3 years working with HR Systems.

Location:

  • Must be resident permanently in Abuja.
