Job Title: Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Location: Lagos

The Job

  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is expected to support and complement the Vice-Chancellor in both the academic and administrative duties, and the responsibilities of ensuring an efficient orderly and democratic University system properly positioned for the attainment of set goals. By law, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor is also a member of the Governing Council as well as the Senate and the Management Committees and is elected by Senate following nominations by the Vice-Chancellor
  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor acts in the place of the Vice-Chancellor when the office of the Vice-Chancellor is vacant or the Vice-Chancellor is for any reason (including absence from the precincts of the University) unable to perform his/her functions.
  • Specifically, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor has the responsibility for overseeing and supporting community services including student and staff- oriented services, business services, health, socio-cultural and religious matters.
  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor has responsibility for overseeing university committees on research, academic planning development publications, learned conferences, postgraduate board, academic staff development, and Deans. He also assists the Vice-Chancellor to generate revenue.

Qualifications
An applicant for the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University must possess the following qualities and qualifications:

  • Be a university teacher with a PhD in any relevant field.
  • Must have been a Professor for at least 8 years in a reputable institution of higher learning
  • Be morally sound and of unimpeachable probity and integrity
  • Be a person who is physically and mentally fit in state of good health;
  • Be not more than 65 years old.
  • Be a person of high academic standing and reputation in his/her respective discipline;
  • Must be familiar and conversant with developmental, academic and other complex managerial problems of a large University
  • Have extensive and deep experience in all facets of University administration;
  • Be a person who commands respect nationally and internationally especially in academic circle.

Tenure of Office / Terms of Appointment

  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a term of four (4) years and may-be eligible for re-appointment
  • His terms and conditions of service shall be embodied in a contract under the seal of the University.

Remuneration

  • The remuneration and other conditions of services shall be as applicable to the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined by the Governing Council of the University from time to time.
