Sweat Your Asset Derivative Limited - Our client, a terminal operator with the mandate to provide integrated maritime and logistics solutions to both inbound and outbound traffic for the South-South, South East and North Central markets of Nigeria.

Recent organizational development and restructuring efforts has led to investments in human, equipment and terminal development. The organization needs to fill the below vacancy to strategically position itself as the premier terminal operator in Africa:

Job Title: Workshop Manager

Location: Calabar, Cross Rivers
Job Level: Senior Management

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the overhauls, preventative maintenance and repair of port equipment and vehicle fleet in a cost-effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment.
  • Supervises the maintenance and repair (i.e. electrical, electronic, and mechanical)of all port equipment (tractor trailers, Reach Stackers, Forklift and other technical support equipment and vehicle fleet.
  • Ensure that the equipment is maintained in a safe and reliable working condition in accordance with planned preventive maintenance program and to identify and rectify repetitive problems.
  • Monitor and develop maintenance staff to ensure technical skills are maintained, and that a transfer of that knowledge is made to Workshop staff whenever appropriate.
  • Ensure that breakdowns are repaired promptly, and that the repair work does not disrupt the Operations. Control overtime through adequate planning and scheduling.
  • Ensures that planning, scheduling, and unscheduled repairs are carried out efficiently and cost effectively, with quality service.
  • Oversees the administrative requirements of the Workshop, including warranty obligations, inspection records, manual updates, equipment defect reports, maintenance services, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Reviews and recommends updates to maintenance services policies and procedures to ensure quality, reliability, and efficiencies.
  • Reviews new equipment for suitability and makes recommendations, based on cost, availability, and needs of business operations.
  • Organize meetings with staff to communicate goals, objectives, and planning and scheduling, and to motivate group to achieve these goals.
  • Maintains an effective safety program, coordinating safety training with HSSEQ Department; ensures all injuries are reported timely, properly investigated, and measures taken to prevent future injuries. Ensures good housekeeping practices throughout the workshop.
  • Provide complete and accurate reports to management, as needed.
  • Deliver results in a timely manner by following the specific manufacturer’s maintenance schedules.
  • Constantly contribute to improve work processes, methods & improve technical efficiency of machinery and equipment.

Job Specifications

  • HND / BSc in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 12 - 14 years quality work experience; 5 of which must have been at senior management level
  • Professional qualification e.g. MSc Engineering/MBA Management is compulsory
  • Relevant professional accreditations(COREN, NSE) is compulsory
  • Knowledge of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code
  • Working Knowledge of port and shipping industry is of critical advantage.
