Africa Magic seeks to appoint a self-motivated individual to assume responsibility as a Research and Intelligence Lead for Africa Magic. This person will report to the Regional Director for West Africa and will be based at our offices in Lagos, Nigeria.

Context

The Research division’s main purpose is to strategically support and proactively provide Africa Magic, and the various channel clusters, with relevant research into their target markets, content selection, scheduling, competition, audience viewing behaviors and general content consumption trends. This is to successfully support business decision-making with strategic insight (short and long-term).

The Research & intelligence Lead is required to support Africa Magic channel clusters with content and audience research, findings, interpretations and strategic recommendations. It entails the collation and interpretation of data, as well as the ability to gain market intelligence and proactively communicate insight into strategic decisions impacting on the channel division’s performance. With ultimate responsibility for researching, compiling, analyzing, reporting and leveraging data and other audience measurement information to deliver prescriptive insights that drive audience and business development for Africa Magic/M-net channels and local productions.

Outputs
The outputs are critical to the successful operation of the Africa Magic Channels, as well as the internal business units within Africa Magic, which will enable the achievement of the organisation’s mission and strategy. The outputs include the following:
  • Strategically support the Africa Magic business and senior management with research, insight and recommendations (business plans and new business developments recommendations).
  • Develop and be responsible for the market research programme (and budget) for Africa Magic including but not limited to the brand health and image tracking surveys in collaboration with the West Africa team.
  • Implement and be responsible for all research requirements (includes questionnaire and sample design; supplier selection, project management and data analysis).
  • Promote the Africa Magic brands and build value based on customer feedback
  • Interpretation of research results and ability to provide to management strategic insight of African markets.
  • Provide input on the performance of channels and M-Net local productions in West Africa
  • Tracking and reporting channel performances
  • Competitive research, analysis and interpretation (target markets, content, scheduling and other).
  • Media trends monitoring and reporting
  • Providing input into marketing and creative campaigns and strategies
  • Working closely with the programming and scheduling departments to provide feedback
  • Working closely with the DStv Media Sales departments to develop sponsorship and increase ad revenue
  • Develop a clear understanding of the audience needs and communicate it to necessary departments
  • Implement and manage all research undertakings (qualitative/quantitative and primary/secondary) across Nigeria and West Africa
  • Anticipate and respond to demand for information from internal customers
  • Distribute monthly reports relating to Africa Magic channel and content performance, including competitor performance (audience ratings – channel and content, insights and recommendations) to senior management.
  • Highlight trends in television viewing and creative ways to reach audiences
  • Conduct Social Media Measurement Tracker of the Africa Magic family of channels and M-Net local productions.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with research industry suppliers and experts
  • Build and develop relationships with key stakeholders across companies within the Group.
  • Monthly presentations to the Director and channel heads regarding channel and content performance, including competitor performance (with strategic insight and sound recommendations).
  • Channel / content research, analysis and interpretation:
  • Target market (profile / trends)
  • Content selection
  • Scheduling patterns / trends
  • Other
  • DStv-I and desktop research interpretation, including field research where required.
  • Initiate and/or support field research projects as required by business.
  • Subscribe and manage relevant research publications/agencies.

  • Post-graduation qualification in research or related filed would be an advantage
  • Must have extensive research experience
  • Must have an exceptional knowledge of and a passion for the media industry
  • Must have strong people management experience
  • Must have advanced computer skills (MS Excel / MS Word / MS Powerpoint)
