Position Title: Nike Foundation Adolescent Girl Financial Inclusion Coordinator

General Position Summary:

The Coordinator will be seconded into the Girl Hub in Nigeria and Mercy Corps Nigeria. S/he will provide technical advice and support to the Girl Hub and Mercy Corps teams in Nigeria. The Coordinator is a senior position with supervisory and advisory responsibilities. The Coordinator will supervise the work of sector Program Managers including the planning, implementation, and communication of ongoing programs that strengthened the education and economic empowerment of girls.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Bring financial inclusion expertise and support/drive the work to target and reach the bottom 40% of girls across strategies and plans; ensure our work starts and ends with the ‘last girl’.
  • Provide technical support on financial inclusion to the implementation, monitoring and review of the ENGINE, ASSETS and GOAL programs
  • Mentor and develop the technical capacity of staff
  • Identify, design and deliver technical support to economic empowerment of adolescent girls programmes
  • Provide adolescent girl subject matter expertise throughout our work to influence systems and (Government of Nigeria, the World Bank, UN, private sector, and other key partners, focusing on the Central Bank of Nigeria Financial Inclusion Framework)
  • Network within DFID and other appropriate organisations to increase coordination and identify gaps on adolescent girl programs in Nigeria
  • Play an active role with Girl Hub country and global teams in building institutional knowledge to create compelling multidisciplinary evidence of taking the girl effect to scale in country.
Accountability
Reports Directly To: Girl Hub Country Director with a dotted line to Mercy Corps Country Director
Works Directly With:
  • Girl Hub Nigeria team; DFID northern Nigeria team; Girl Hub London and Nike Foundation teams (Pillar leads, Design & Innovation, Insights, and Brand team, Monitoring and Learning team, Global Initiatives team, Girl Direct and g.school team).
  • Mercy Corps Country team: Country Director, Program Managers of the ENGINE, ASSETS and GOAL prorgrams
Knowledge and Experience:
  • A degree, preferably graduate level, in Business Administration, Economics or Finance is required;
  • At least 7 years work experience working on financial inclusion for vulnerable groups, adolescent girls’ programs or gender programming.
  • Proven knowledge of international financial inclusion best practices
  • Fluency in English required, including report development, writing and editing. Strong desire for applicants with fluency in Hausa.
  • Demonstrated experience in training, capacity building of partners and team members.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members required
  • Highly developed computers skills with strong familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel are mandatory.
  • Candidate must be willing to travel and work throughout Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly to achieve stated results and objectives.
  • Strong organizational development and team management experience.
  • Experience in project management and coordination; including implementation and monitoring, donor reporting, partner relationships, communication and networking.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and experience of working in a multi-cultural team.

Success Factors:
The successful Coordinator will combine sound program management and human resource management skills with a high level of efficiency, a creative and rigorous approach to program development, a consistent field orientation, good donor and external stakeholder representation skills, and the cultural/management sensitivity to hold a supervisory role in Nigeria.

Living Conditions/Environmental Conditions:

The Financial Inclusion Coordinator will be based in Abuja and will coordinate activities throughout the country. The Coordinator will travel frequently to program locations, where security may be particularly difficult at times. Security in Abuja is generally good, although petty crime is a problem. Housing, health care, water, electricity and consumer goods are all reasonably accessible and there are good international and domestic travel options from Abuja Airport.

Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and Girl Hub and Mercy Corps policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
