Specific Objectives

  • The Information Technology Assistant is responsible for maintaining computer hardware, software and networks. Under the supervision of the IT Officer, the incumbent provides technical support through monitoring and maintenance of computer systems and networks of the organization
  • The successful candidate will assist the IT Officer to install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware/software fault and solve technical and applications problems in the office and in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software and network operating system
  • Provide orientation to new users of existing technology
  • Train staff about potential uses of existing technology
  • Provide individual training and support on request
  • Provide recommendations about accessing information and support
  • Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources
  • Monitor and maintain technology to ensure maximum access
  • Troubleshoot all technology issues
  • Maintain log and/or list of required repairs and maintenance
  • Make recommendations about purchase of technology resources
  • Research current and potential resources and services
  • Install work stations
  • Connect and set up hardware
  • Load all required software.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Ability

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences or a related field; Experience in information technology operation is compulsory
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced concepts and basic operating principles of data communications and information systems hardware and software
  • Knowledge of data processing and data communications concepts and services.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operational and technical problems involved in the administration of a specialized program
  • Be familiar with all hardware and software
  • Be familiar with network operating system
  • Ability to gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions
  • Ability to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied packaged programs for use with existing information systems.
