Job Title: Supervisor - Construction

Position Description
  • Responsible for all installation, hook up and pre-commissioning works for platform topsides, substructures and subsea pipelines located offshore.
  • Supervise the construction activities of the Alliance (Company/Contractor) work force to ensure that all projects are completed safely, within schedule and budget and to the required specifications.

Job Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Carry out all construction supervision / monitoring activities required for the successful delivery of the works assigned.
  • Comply with Alliance procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Implement Alliance HSE policies and procedures.
  • Participate and Lead in Job Hazard Analyses and safety toolbox meetings.
  • Assist in constructability reviews and the planning and scheduling of construction works.
  • Ensure all permits to work are in place.
  • Monitor overall progress against schedule and report on same to line management, highlighting the potential for slippage and proposing remedial actions as appropriate.
  • Ensure works are completed and handed over on schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with the agreed quality plans.
  • Prepare project close out and “lessons learnt” reports.
  • Implement Alliance HSE Plans, conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance
  • Review sub-contractors' work procedures; assess sub-contractors' personnel and equipment for suitability for the work.
  • Liaise with others and supervise materials identification and co-ordination of supply to work sites, ensure adequate inspection and testing is carried out and ensure as-built drawings are produced.
  • Participate in all pre- commissioning activities.
  • Control APDNL supplied material issues to sub-contractors, ensuring that any surplus is accounted for.
  • Maintain adequate records relating to events surrounding the work, which may give rise to sub-contractors claiming for cost increases against contract. Contribute to project close out reports as applicable.
  • Ensure that Vessel Daily Progress Reports are accurate in details and capture all critical path work related activities.

  • On time and budget delivery of all work scopes.
  • No, or minimal, site modifications or rework.
  • Implementation of Management Of Change Procedure.
Financial Dimensions
Responsible for completion of offshore construction projects up to $US 50 million in value.

Job Specifications
  • Minimum of HNC in a suitable engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Offshore Construction of Pipeline and Structures.
  • Minimum of 15 years in the Upstream Oil and Gas industry, with at least 10 years in a similar position with an operating company, Nigerian / West African experience preferred.
  • 40+ years of age
Key Competencies Requirements
  • Experience in offshore facilities construction work is essential, especially in the installation of platforms and pipeline lying in shallow water (5 – 15 m), as well as working on facilities expansions where simultaneous production and construction operations are required.
  • Experience of onshore fabrication and construction works for above facilities.
  • A good understanding of the relevant codes and standards for welding work and testing requirements for same is a prerequisite.
  • A reasonable understanding of E & I construction and testing works.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential, for dealing with a broad spectrum of cultural and organisational styles, as well as being able to fit in as a team player.
  • Fit and fully mobile, so as to maintain the supervision at the various locations where activities related to the work will be carried out.
  • A self starter, able to plan and work toward goal completion at locations remote from APDNL project engineering and engineering management staff.
  • Proven experience of supervising and coordinating the activities of a multi-discipline construction supervision team.
  • Good communication and team building skills at all levels – able to lead and gain the respect of contractor and 3rd parties.
  • Must be resourceful with the ability to improvise / prioritise when confronted with obstacles without loosing focus and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to exercise relevant construction / installation judgement ensuring success of the assigned projects.
  • Proven track record in managing multicultural situations.
  • Results-driven, focussed on delivery and quality of the projects.
  • Able to hold own ground when challenged by contractors, being able to present a balanced view when putting arguments forward.
  • Comfortable working with a multinational, multicultural team.
  • 0600 – 1800 hrs or as per operational requirements, with additional hours as operationally required.
  • 28 / 28 Contract position or as per contract. With additional working periods and onshore relief work as operationally required.
