Field Support Services Project (FSSP) is part of the effort to make Canada’s development assistance in Nigeria more effective, more focused, and more accountable. FSSP’s mandate includes providing a range of services supporting the implementation of Canada's development programs in Nigeria to improve the quality of program delivery. FSSP services include provision of access to Technical Specialists and other consultants with local knowledge and experience; provision of administrative, logistical, procurement and financial services; and provision of support to local development initiatives for the execution of Canada’s development programs in Nigeria.

Job Title: Advisor on Innovative Financing for Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Growth

Job Description

  • Canada’s Field Support Services Project (FSSP) seeks to hire an Innovative Finance Advisor to provide technical advisory services to Global Affairs Canada in support of its sustainable and inclusive economic growth portfolio in Nigeria.
  • Canada’s sustainable and inclusive economic growth programing is guided by its Feminist International Assistance Policy, which seeks to address barriers impeding women’s active participation in the economy, build inclusive and sustainable economies and also strengthen economic resilience.

Scope of Work:

  • This is a part-time assignment for an initial period of 50 workdays in 6 months, renewable, depending on performance and programming needs. Position may be based in Lagos. Otherwise, travel to Lagos or other states may be required.
  • Advise on how Canada and its implementing partners can strengthen project delivery and outcomes in line with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.
  • Provide guidance to implementing partners and GAC based on best practice and lessons learned, with a focus on transformative approaches to advancing women’s economic empowerment and gender equality.
  • Advise on broader issues and trends in innovative finance, blended finance, impact investing, and gender lens investing in Nigeria.
  • Support project analysis, project development, and strategic planning.
  • Support the Program’s engagement with key stakeholders (government, donors, civil society and private sector).

Required Education, Competencies, Skills and Knowledge

  • Post-graduate degree, such as a Master's, from an accredited, recognized institution in a relevant discipline such as Business, Economics, International Development, or any related field with at least 5 years of experience in Nigeria or bachelor’s degree with 7 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience (10 years for Bachelors) in development programming focused on innovative financing for development, in partnership with private sector actors (including performance-based financing, impact investment, and blended finance).
  • Experience working with women-focused or led SMEs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of transformative gender equality programming in the sustainable and inclusive economic growth sector, including in gender lens investing.
  • Knowledge of the policy environment in Nigeria related to innovative finance, inclusive economic growth and their operationalisation.
  • Demonstrated experience providing advice and recommendations, including drafting briefing notes, sectoral analyses, and monitoring and assessment reports for senior decision-makers in donor agencies, government, civil society organizations or the private sector. Samples of work to be supplied upon request.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, verbal, presentation, organization, and time management skills.
  • Candidates must have proven authorisation to work in Nigeria.
