Job Title: Consultant to Support 2021 World No Tobacco Day Communication / Social Media Campaign

Objectives of the Program

  • World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on 31 May. This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations
  • World No Tobacco Day 2021 - "Commit to Quit" - is a year-long campaign aimed at encouraging 100 million people pledge to quit tobacco. “Commit to Quit” will help create healthier environments that are conducive to quitting tobacco by advocating for strong tobacco cessation policies; increasing access to cessation services; raising awareness of tobacco industry tactics, and empowering tobacco users to make successful quit attempts through “quit & win” initiatives.

Description of Duties
Under the overall supervision of the WHO Tobacco Control Regional Advisor, UHP Cluster lead and Tobacco Control/NCD Focal Point in WHO Country Office Nigeria, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Develop and implement strategic, multi-media marketing plan for promotion of WNTD products rolled out by HQ and RO (e.g. WhatsApp bot, cessation app, Florence digital health worker, etc.) including communication materials on WNTD (e.g. campaign video and other assets)
  • Lead advocacy efforts by bringing together different national stake holders and identifying channels to share WNTD communication materials
  • Identify and engage with tobacco cessation support/buddy groups on Facebook (request permission to post resources and materials on page, answer technical questions from group members, etc.)
  • Identify and engage local influencers to participate in the influencer campaign;
  • Support adaptation of campaign materials (social tiles, GIFs) to local context, as needed
  • Support review and approval of communications materials provided by WHO HQ in local language(s); and
  • Support the MOH tobacco control focal point on the implementation of the WNTD campaign.

Required Qualifications
Education

  • Essential: University degree in Communications or any related field.

Experience

  • Essential: At least two years’ experience working in public health, tobacco control, communications or related field.
  • Desirable: Working experience with WHO / other UN agencies or in tobacco.

Skills:
