of democratic societies. IFES provides targeted technical assistance to strengthen transitional democracies. Founded in 1987 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, IFES has developed and implemented comprehensive, collaborative democracy solutions in more than 120 countries.

IFES NIGERIA:
IFES is proposing a capacity-building program in support of the professionalisation of Nigeria’s electoral process in the run-up to the next Presidential elections, building upon our work in Nigeria between 1998 - 2009.

Job Title: Copy Editor / Writer
Location: Various
Division: Program Management
Status: International Part Time

Project Description:
Support IFES’ MENA department through editing and writing (and other duties as required to support MENA’s objectives). This position is contingent upon funding from the donor.

Job Responsibilities:
• Edit (proofread, copyedit, or substantively edit) news and articles for grammar syntax and style.
• Edit news and articles for content quality (e.g. fairness, objectivity, tone)
• Check facts included in news and articles
• Write headline and sub-headline for the content
• Select proper topic and keywords for the content
• Select proper arts (graphics or photos) for the content
• Produce content for the website

Qualifications:
• BA from an accredited college or university; 3+ years of relevant work experience;
• Excellent writing/editing/organizational skills
• Strong grammar and copyediting skills (ability to edit for clarity, accuracy and limited space)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products and their applications
• Experience editing the work of non-native speakers of English a plus
• Fluency in regional language and experience writing and editing in regional language;
• Knowledge of political, social and cultural issues in Middle East;
• Knowledge of BBC style a plus.

• Detail-oriented with a commitment to customer service
• Demonstrated experience editing and writing articles (editing test is required, writing samples a plus)
