Overview of the Position:
Out of 55 Tier 1 Manufacturing plants of Olam, 25 are located in Africa in Nigeria, Cote d’Ivorie, Ghana, Mozambique, Cameroon, Senegal and Tanzania. While some plants have dedicated EHS resource, in many plants this is a shared responsibility. Driving EHS agenda in all these plants is a key imperative. Incumbent will be based out of Lagos, Nigeria in view of high concentration of Tier 1 plants in the country.

Key Result Areas:
  • Draft and publish a safety manual detailing the basics of Olam’s EHS policy and procedures.
  • Design a robust Audit system comprising of Policy/Management/System/Infrastructure/Process/Practice regarding EHS.
  • Undertake audits based on published audit criterion either by self or through cross audit by plant EHS managers.
  • Follow up on action plans in identified gaps as brought out during audits.
  • Give inputs to project teams during greenfield/brownfield projects to build in EHS compliance during design stage itself.
  • Audit project sites for compliance of EHS guidelines and work with project teams to enable compliance.
  • Bring out new/unknown risks in new and existing facilities for management to take cognisance and action.
  • Ensure all local/international regulatory norms are being complied with in Olam facilities.
  • Coach and train Plant EHS personnel to develop them as EHS leaders in their own plants.
  • Undertake training of plant personnel to enable knowledge is transferred to the lowest level in the plant operations.
Qualification & Experience:
  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical.
  • Total of 10-15 years of industry experience relevant to EHS.
  • Initial experience in Maintenance/Projects in large manufacturing set-up.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in leading EHS function of a large corporation in national/regional role.
  • Ability to network and excellent communication (both written and verbal) and people skills.
  • Ability to persevere and stay focused in the face of priority conflict with peer group and leverage key stake holders to move agenda forward.
