Column Trust Limited - An indigenous company has an outsourcing/Training Division that specializes in the provision and management of contract staff in all categories as well as the selection and placement of temporary staff for corporate organizations (including The Banks, Oil and Gas, services Telecoms, Manufacturing, Construction & Allied Industry, Hospitals Healthcare Companies and Multilateral Organizations).

Our Client, an International Construction Company is looking for the services of qualified individuals to work at their Lagos project:

Job Title: Lead Iron Bender (Buildings)

Reporting to: Civil Supervisor/General Foreman

Job Description
  • Supervises and leads crews/workers engaged in Rebar fabrication in Industrial, Commercial and Residential building construction.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assuring proper cutting and bending of rods for concrete reinforcement.
  • Positioning and securing steel bars, or mesh in concrete forms, using fastener and appropriate hand tools.
  • Determining qualities, size shapes and locations of reinforcing rods from blue print, sketches, or oral instructions.
  • Leads and controls Rebar fabricators engaged in all activities concerned with the civil building works. Ability to optimize resources (manpower, equipment and materials) to ensure efficient and timely completion of the works. Able to demonstrate good organizational skills, following policies, procedures and work practices.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow method statements and procedures, specifications, drawings, and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation.
  • Commands respect of his workforce, and develop excellent working relationships with all other department personnel.
  • Must be a good communicator. Able to give instructions in an efficient and effective way to his workforce. Liaises with other discipline foremen to ensure the optimum utilization of available work, with the overall objective of successful completion of the project.
  • Leads and supervises workers engaged in the Rebar fabrication of buildings and other civil works and assists the civil supervisor in the coordination and performance or related activities such as setting out, preparation of bar bending schedules, cutting and bending, installing Rebar fabrication equipment and fittings etc.
  • Ensures that work crews are properly supplied with tools, equipment and materials. Prevents wastage and misuse of equipment, materials and tools.   Supervises work crews to best utilize manpower and materials, exercises discipline at the work site to prevent absenteeism, unsafe work practices and idleness.
  • Familiar with all Company safety and QA/QC procedures, regulations and strictly enforces them with the workforce under his responsibility.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complies with the highest level of safety during all stages of project execution to avoid any type of incidents and or accidents. Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others in the workplace.
  • Complies with all statutory requirements connected with the implementation of project.
Qualifications/Requirements and Experience
  • Minimum High School Certificate.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Industrial, Commercial and Residential carpentry works with at least5 years of experience as Foreman carpentry.
Other Requirements:
  • Minimum - 30 years old.
  • Maximum - 45 years old.
  • Physically strong and healthy.
  • Does not suffer from vertigo.
Working Condition:
  • Can work with minimum supervision and under pressure.
