Job Title: Head, HR & Administration

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Head HR & Admin is required to:

  • Develop and coordinate the implementation and upgrading of comprehensive people management strategy and plans while ensuring alignment with the company’s business strategy and key business objectives
  • Direct and is accountable for all matters concerning employment legislation and contract issues to ensure that company liabilities are managed in compliance with relevant laws
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital.
  • Liaise with line management to determine key performance requirements, develop people, ensure delivery of prioritised, tailored and focused HR interventions that add value and meet business objectives
  • Communicate human capital strategy and operating plan to departments & other functional areas (especially crew members onboard the vessels) to ensure understanding and commitment
  • Provide strong functional leadership to enable effective delivery of HR strategy across the business
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of the company’s people development and training strategies, plans to ensure identified needs are addressed with appropriate interventions
  • Direct and motivate HR/Admin function staff in delivering the people management mandate in line with key deliverables specified in service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of Human Capital policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process to ensure that the organisation is adequately staffed by qualified and highly motivated personnel
  • Define and maintain a competitive and merit-based compensation system to support company strategy
  • Facilitate the achievement of industrial peace and harmony within the organization through stakeholder management (Community, vendors, regulators etc)
  • Counsel and advice to staff on personal and work-related issues including providing guidance and direction to management team and employees on human resource related topics.
  • Ensure proper implementation of human resource information management to support HR service delivery.
  • Effectively interface with all levels of the organization to coordinate and oversee all the people-related and office management activities.
  • Make certain that all administrative systems and processes are exceptionally reliable, finely tuned and well delivered with an aim towards pro-activeness rather than reaction.
  • Negotiate related contracts, manage relevant vendor relationships, liaison with building management and oversee office operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Relation and Communication or other related/relevant area. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Relevant professional qualification such as CIPM, SHRM or HRCI certifications
  • 10 - 12 years cognate work experience in HR Generalist years practice, and at least 5 years of leadership role preferably in a reputable Marine and/ structured business environment.
  • Ability to listen, negotiate and influence all categories of people and act calmly and reasonably even under pressure
  • Excellent Leadership and communication skills.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Should possess current HR industry history and dynamics (including deep knowledge of labourlaws and regulations)
  • Knowledge of relevant Marine labor legislations (MLC 2010, MIMASA requirements etc)
  • Should be able to use initiative and work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to hold/organize quality presentations, training, and coaching others.
