Sahara Power Group has recruited 107 graduate engineers in the country in line with its commitment to empower the youth and develop local capacity in the power sector.

Sahara Power comprised KEPCO Energy Resource Limited, New Electricity Distribution Company and NG Power-HPS Ltd, having stakes in Egbin Power Plc, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) and First Independent Power Ltd (FIPL).

The young engineers, some of whom were sourced from the host communities where the subsidiary companies operate, will commence a rigorous training programme meant to equip them for their roles in IKEDC, Egbin and FIPL.

Speaking at the induction ceremony in Lagos, Managing Director/CEO Sahara Power, Mr Kola Adesina said the gesture tallied with the robust human capital development policy of his company to enhance capacity and knowledge transfer.

He said the intensive training programme would be facilitated by the National Power Training Institute (NAPTIN) just as he urged the beneficiaries to utilise the programme’s opportunity to kick-start a career that will transform the power sector in Nigeria.

In his address, NAPTIN Director General, Engr. Reuben Okeke commended the initiative saying “NAPTIN is delighted with the collaboration and remains committed to ensuring that young engineers who go through the institute will emerge as future leaders of the sector in Nigeria and beyond.”
