Requirements and Qualifications

1.) Provost

Responsibilities of the Provost
  • The Provost shall be responsible for matters relating to the effective administration of the College of Medical Sciences, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi. including academic programmes, faculties, staff, students, facilities, resources, budgets, fund raising and relationships with larger University community and external bodies and collaborations.
Desirable Qualities of the Provost
  • The Provost must be a medically qualified Professor in keeping with the requirement of the Medical and Denial Council of Nigeria.
  • The Provost shalt be a strategic leader capable of managing a substantial, complex, growing organization. Ideally, the candidate must come from an academic Medical setting with adequate relevant administrative experience.
Educational Qualifications
  • MBBS/MBBCH/MD as basic Medical qualification or equivalent degree.
  • Candidate must be a Professor of not less than 5 years post Professional experience
  • Candidate must have a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College or its equivalent in any of the Medical and Dental specialties/disciplines.
  • Must be registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria with a current practicing licence.
  • Possession of a Doctorate degree in a relevant discipline is an added advantage
  • Good physical and mental health.
2.) Professor
  • Must have MBBS, M.Sc, Ph.D or Fellow of West African College of Surgeons (FWCS), Physicians (FWSP) or any Equivalent qualifications.
  • Must have published at least 15 Journal articles in peer Review Medical Journals.
  • Minimum of 15 years of continuous teaching and research experience.
3.) Reader
  • As in B2 above but with a minimum of 10 years of teaching and research experience and at least 13 journal publications in a peer review medical journal.
4.) Senior Lecturer
  • As in 2 above but with at least 9 years of teaching and research experience and at least 10 journal publications.
5.) Lecturer I
  • As in 2 above but with a minimum, of at Least 7 years of teaching and research experience and at Least 5 journal publications,
6.) Lecturer II
  • Must have M.BBS/ M.Sc. and must have published 3 Journal articles in a peer review reputable medical journal.
  • A Ph.D in the relevant field.
7.) Assistant Lecturer
  • Must have MBBS/M.Sc
8.) Technologist
  • Must have B.Sc/HND in relevant areas.
  • 6 years post qualification experience for Senior Technologist.
Condition of Service
The Condition of Service is as defined in Abubakar Tafawa Ralewa University. Bauchi Conditions of Service and other Colleges of Medical Sciences in the Federal Universities of Nigeria.
